Willing to Sponsor: Make title clickable link

wasirwin - May 30, 2007 - 06:12
Project:Links Package
Version:6.x-1.0-beta7
Component:Code: links_weblink.module
Category:feature request
Priority:normal
Assigned:syscrusher
Status:needs review
Description

I'd like to list weblinks and be able to click the title to open URL in browser window.

Place limit on comment length by author. Entire allowed comment field could show as teaser.

Then link at bottom to: Add/view comments

That would allow other users to comment AND view any previous comments by other users.

Open to charitable contribution.

I've had other requests for this feature; seems reasonable and will probably be implemented.

Doesn't this overlap with existing (and working) Drupal functionality? Right now, a person can already specify the allowed teaser length in the node admin functions of Drupal core, absent the <!--break--> tag in the content itself. In my mind, anyone knowledgeable enough to use this tag should know what they're doing.

Using the existing Drupal functionality also allows the "read more" link to function even if your proposed outlink-on-title feature is in effect. To my mind, this gives the best of both worlds.

The "read more" link should already do this, but I'll check.

If I understand your request correctly, I think all we really need to do is offer the outlink-on-title option for the site administrator, and ensure that "read more" is present and functional.

Would you consider donating to the Drupal foundation?

After reading your response, I see exactly what you mean, and agree.

I apologize for my oversight. My ability to create a user experience far exceeds my Drupal skills.

Will happily dontate $C in your name to Drupal foundation for adding that feature.

I lend my vocal support to this effort! A little check box that says: "link title to URL."

Good evening!

It's been a long time coming, because it turned out to be fairly tricky to implement. The code is only a few lines, but finding out what code to write was very tricky.

In any case, this feature is now in the 6.x-1.0-beta7 release of Links Package. Have fun, and please post comments or bug reports here.

Kind regards,

Scott

P.S. Note that the feature is an admin-controlled option, and it is OFF by default. So you need to go to the admin screen for links_weblink and enable it if you want it active.

Is this backported to the 5-x dev version? Willing to test... thanks for the module updates!

No, it doesn't look like it. Is it an easy addition? I'll take a look!

I took a look at the CVS and the changed function for Drupal 6 doesn't even exist in Drupal 5's version of the links module. So I think backporting this myself might be a little beyond my understanding of the code and where the changes should go.

Subscribing, needing this functionality in D5 also..
and how can I already use it in D6? I do not see an admin function, which I could reengineer with this please?
greetings, Martijn
