On 4 different sites, the Browse Server Button has dissappeared from the IMCE interface after working smoohtly since December.
Both IE and FF.
Anybody ??

Nothing just disappears, generally you or somebody changed something, maybe you upgraded a theme or a module - or yourprovider changes something (which might be the bad news)

Is that 4 different hosts?

Did you try from different machines?
Did you log out and back in?
Did you change web permissions on the server?
Did you try different usernames?
Did you turn off javascript?
Did you change firewall settings?

I'm currently having this issue.

IMCE and fckeditor works fine for me when I log in as root user and a test account. But someone else who uses it says it disappears for them. It will show up one minute and be gone the next.

She's using IE7 but it shows up for here in Firefox.

Did you have any success with this?

I couldn't figure out the root cause, but I created a new account for the person, and when he logged in with the new account it all worked as it should.

He happened to mention that he never logged out in the past, I told him to log out when done. I don't know if that had anything to do with it, but he hasn't had any more problems.

Also, at the same time we decided FCKeditor wasn't worth the load up wait time, and disabled it. That might have had something to do with it too.

I was facing the same baffling issue. For me, the Browse Server button was missing in IE6 and 7, but visible in Firefox on PC and mac. It was caused by IE's security settings.

Solved by the following steps:

Select Tools from the IE menu,
Select Internet Options from the Tools menu,
Select the Security tab in the Internet Options window,
Set the Security Level to Low using the slider.

I tried adding my site to the trusted sites list, but it isn't a https site so using the Low Security Level was the only way to get it to work.

Hope this works for your issue too.

I know I have been to a few dead shows in my past but it did disappear for me also w/FF. It showed up once but after refresh it was not there so I

logged out on the machine i use and re logged in= no luck
created new user with permission on=no luck
used IE6 on my machine=no luck
tried it on my mac w/FF=no luck

I would love to have a sullution for this any help : )

may the sun be on your back and Drupal in your face.

I have the Peek-a-book Browse Server Button Syndrome as well. I've installed it on 3 or 4 different sites and it works on some and not on others, and on the ones it works on, it has randomly disappeared a few times.

I had this problem. I fixed it by just going to the IMCE settings page and disabling "Enable FCKEditor support". saving. and then enabling it again. and the browse button came back!

Thanks. This worked for me. I'm using Drupal 5, imce 5.x.1.2 and FCKeditor 5.x.2.2. The 'browse server' disappeared in FF on my production site but not in my development site, which are mostly identical.

I know this is long after the original post, but how I wish I had come across this answer on any of the posts/boards I had seen where the "browse server" button was missing in the IMCE image tab window, using WYSIWYG/FCKedit.

Thankfully, a module exists to patch this. For drupal 5 and 6. It works!

I'm still new to Drupal and learning the system. My Browse button also does not appear. I want to load this patch. into what directory path do I copy the files that I extract?

Disnae work fur me!!!!
I am getting so frustrated with this. In fact this is getting worse than Joomla!
Any help or comments would be greatly appreciated.

Let's not dismiss this as a problem with old versions of the software. The last 4 posts were from this year. I faced this same issue when moving my site to a new server and upgrading to D6.12. However more information would be useful.

The tips by Kenyan ultimately worked for me on one site. On another I had to rebuild the user database and even delete and recreate a user.

I suspect this is an issue between IMCE and one of the user access control modules like Logintoboggen or Node Access. Anyone having this problem AND using a module like this?

This topic was started in 2007, which means that a lot of newer versions of the drupal, imce, fckeditor and your browser have been created. There is even a new WYSIWYG module now.
It is almost impossible that this issue is still the same as it was in the original question. (If it's still the same as in 2007 you need to upgrade fast)

If you want help please help the people who might be able to by being a little more specific..
You need to tell what version of the modules involved you are using, without that noone can help you, as much as they might want to.

Right, I'm having this problem too and I've spent the last two days trying to find out what is wrong. I just installed a brand new website with Drupal 6.19 it's October 2010 now and I've uploaded the most recent modules that are 'recommended' for Drupal 6 I'm newish to Drupal

The relevant modules are:-
Image 6.x-1.0-beta6
CKEditor 6.x-1.2
IMCE 6.x-2.0-rc1
Lightbox2 6.x-1.11
IMCE Wysiwyg API bridge 6.x-1.1
Wysiwyg 6.x-2.1

I'm sorry I don't know if I've missed relevant modules and their version numbers. I've tried several wysiwyg modules and they each refuse to show the browse button

I installed another brand new website 3 months ago with the then current versions 6.17 and I don't have this issue on that site. However they are somewhat older somewhere's along the way I'm sure. It's definately nothing to do with browsers as I have tried viewing the sites on several PCs and with different browsers.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled and tried no end of combos but the Browse button is no where to be seen. Frankly the whole thing is a mess and trying to install pretty much any of the so called wisywigs is complicated and invites errors. So far as I'm aware though I believe I've installed them each correctly but the browse button when I go to insert an image into an entry is not there and I only have a URL option.

I'd appreciate any help as I've had enough of this. I did think Drupal was the biz, but now all because you can't do a simple thing of insert an image from your PC into a page on a site it really does mean it's a complete waste of time using Drupal.

Part of your problem may be that you can't use the WYSIWYG module together with the CKEditor module; they're not compatible. Follow the WYSIWYG module installation instructions here: http://drupal.org/node/371459. This does confuse everyone but that's the way it works.

Actually I can because after much fiddling around on my own I've finally got it to work!!!

Don't ask me how I did it as I'm totally lost now as to what I did as I've tried every combination under the sun but one thing I can say and I am certain pretty much everyone will agree with. The installation of these modules sucks, and the instructions to go with them are often times worse than useless. Even the last poster here 'mjohnq3' agrees "This does confuse everyone but that's the way it works."

So might I suggest that people seriously look at getting a consistent method of installing modules sorted out and write instructions that are clear.

Thanks for the link, it does seem to be helpful, but wouldn't it be better if the whole wysiwyg thing was far more intuitive in the first place?

Seriously, if you continue to use them together you'll end up having all kinds of intermittent problems. This thread is one of many describing the situation: http://drupal.org/node/894120#comment-3380856.

Intuitiveness is in the eye of the beholder. Many times in Drupal simplicity is sacrificed for flexibility.

Jeepers, I've just spent two days trying to get any wysiwyg to work and show the browse button.

I moved the plugins, skins and themes folders that come with a CKEditor install to the directory within the libraries directory to correspond with what's left of CKEditor. Will that not address it?

It's the only wysiwyg I can get to work so far.

1) Disable the CKEditor module if it's enabled.
2) Install the WYSIWYG module in sites/all/modules/wysiwyg.
3) Install the CKEditor script files in sites/all/libraries/ckeditor. Not ../ckeditor/ckeditor.
4) Install the other modules (IMCE, IMCE WYSIWYG Bridge, etc.) under sites/all/modules.
5) Enable all the modules.
6) Follow steps #4 thru #7 here: http://drupal.org/node/371459.
7) You need to configure the basic editor settings on the WYSIWYG configuration page under 'edit' for the editor you're using.

I've spent several years reviewing and testing editor/image upload combinations for Drupal. After a while you get the hang of it.

I thought I was going to have to uninstall and start all over again but it seems that I got it right after all, but I have to say it was all guess work and no thanks to the poorly written instructions that come with these modules and the non intuitive packages. Even you have agreed with this.

Isn't it time someone sorted out how to install these in a simple logical and INTUITIVE manner?

Hmm strange. My browse server button suddenly disappeared too. I think the only thing I did was to "clear Drupal cache" and now it's gone, in
all browsers and with any user-type.

I do however have both CKeditor module and WYSIWYG module installed as well as having placed the CKeditor standalone in /sites/all/libraries/ckeditor
As far as I understand this spells trouble.
