There are download stats somewhere around here, I can't find them at moment.
cck.module (and its addons)
views.module (and its addons)
panels.module
og.module
ranked in the top ten easily I believe.
There is a new site coming that will offer all the stats on Drupal modules, I believe it was stated to be drupalstats.com or something to that effect, I'm sure when its up and running, it will be listed on the front page.

Very interesting.
Very interesting. Chriskennedy I would be interested in who's doing what with which and how. Gives an idea of what web ideas are likely to succeed. I think that's what the post meant to achieve. Am I right e-monkey ?

Don't understand me too quickly
Yes websesame,. I was thinking along that line. I am used to people understanding me too quickly though.
Lullabot podcast
In that case you might want to listen to this podcast: http://www.lullabot.com/audiocast/drupal_podcast_no_40_top_40_projects
What difference does it make?
If you need it, you need it. If you don't, you don't. Just because it's used a lot doesn't mean you should use it.
Also keep in mind that download counts don't mean a thing. Because of poor documentation, many modules have to be downloaded in order to decide if they will help or not. Plus a recently posted module may be downloaded out of curiosity rather than need or usefulness.

Top 10

Geshan
Basic Drupal HOw to
Perspective
I just looked at that article, and here are some stats for you concerning the 21 sites that I maintain:
6 use CCK, 8 use Views (mostly by other modules), 14 use Image (or one of its pieces).
None of my sites use any of the other "must haves." Lists like this are irrelevant and, IMHO, dangerous.
What would be much more helpful is people helping with better documentation and module comparisons in the handbooks.
i thought the same way
When I read Geshan's list, I had the same thoughts. I'd never use most of those modules. (In fact, I don't use image in any of my sites (yet.) I don't use CCK. I use views in all of my sites.
Any Top 10 module lists should be accompanied by a disclaimer like "The top 10 modules I use for my site's needs are..."
I haven't looked at the recipes in the handbook in a long while (are they there?) but lists like these could go there for specific site set-ups.
