I have been doing a lot of research on this and have ultimately came to the conclusion that this is a well known issue with D7 and that there are currently some people trying to fix it.
However, I was wondering if there was a different way to get custom fields into the templates until the use of tokens with custom fields is fixed?
I have a field field_evnt_logo that I want to replace the template logo and can't for the life of me get the image into the template. What would I need to do to make it happen with out using the tokens?
