Uploading a document, then uploading another = confusion

If i upload a document using the 'upload' button it works.
If i then decide to upload a different file using the 'upload' button (to replace the original one) it works - BUT - the description text field still contains the file name of the first document i uploaded.

This is all before I even submit the new node form.
