Is there a way for moderators to move comments from one node to another? So, for example, moving a comment from a book page to a forum where that is more appropriate (perhaps even using the comment to start a new forum topic ideally)?

I've tried searching through the handbook and forums for details on this, but with no success, so i assume this functionality doesn't exist yet. Does anyone have a hack, a module or advice?

I was also often dreaming of a comment to node (and the comment replies to the new node's comments) converter, but never had time to do it... Although I beleive there are quite a few sites in need of such functionality...

This is of course not a complaint, just a +1 on the need of the functionality, so if someone comes across with some free time, (s)he has more encouragment that this work is much needed.

I belive there was a module that did this in one of the earlier versions (4.1 or something??). It added a link at the bottom of an article that said something like "Discuss this in the forums" or something so that all the replies went to the forums.

This is not the same functionality. We are talking about breaking up threads and making a node of an existing comment. This is absolutely admin restricted functionality.
