There's little point speculating on price, there is no clear brief for the project here. "Like" another site doesn't necessarily mean "the same as", plus the development might have been using something totally different (language, package, etc). There's always differences anyway, which will ultimately affect cost.

That would be the reason why there's a pile of foreign developers responding, due the exchange rate and price of labour. If they can afford to do it, then they can ask for the work, no problem.

From my point of view, it looks like a fairly large social networking site, and it would be into 5 figures for me. GBP.

just from what ive read ima assume a 'social networking site' would involve ALOT of factors which the OG poster possibly did not take into account such as:

db building
db maintenance
requirements gathering
usability testing
wrtie up's and documentation
logo design
icons
graphic work
SEO

just to name a few

im going to throw a number bout there....$50,000+ ? and thats not including hosting and db maintenance, keep in mind that youtube.com started out as a social networking site and was purchased by goggle for around 64billion dollars

I approached a local web development company - been in business for 10 years.. they know their stuff. Without giving much specific details about my social networking project he told me 60K or more, he said more and not less...

for 60K here is what I got

db setup
site setup with all the described modules
testing

not included -
graphics stuff.
technical support which is $80/hour minimum of 2 hours.

Well I wish I could find someone to create my site for 2K.
