Great module - like to see max length option for tags field I have.

What would you like to limit? The length of each individual tag or the number of tags?
To limit the number of tags there is another module that does the job quite nice:

Thanks for referring me to the taxonomy limit module however freetagging is not supported.
My request is really to set a practical limit for this field (words, characters - doesn't matter) in the same way as the maxlength modules does for body & title. Too many tags will spoil the layout. Installation of this module was primarily as a failsafe to limit the effects of potential spammers and spoilers.

From the module description: "It has been updated to allow freetagging categories as well."
So give it a try, it could do what you want.

Excellent - you're spot on - I didn't notice it in the description - it [still] specifically says no freetagging support on the module config page. Also it didn't work until you check 'multiple terms allowed' in the freetagging category (normally assumed by drupal with freetagging categories).
Upon reflection I think I would still prefer a character limit option - purely because a term limit has too much scope - given that a term can be more than one word, 8 terms could be 32, 50 or 150 characters (or more!). For the time being however I guess it is okay.

Yes, the need to check 'multiple terms allowed' is a bit confusing, I run into the same problem:

Maybe you want to follow up on that issue asking to be fixed.

To go back to the other side of your original question..
Would it be practical for the maxlength module to analyse the length of each individual tag? I've put the same request to the developer of the taxonomy limit module. Where would it be better implemented?
Obviously feel free to close this topic if you've taken it as far as you'd like - I'm just voicing possibilities as it is already a very useful module.

Broadened to say perhaps a maxlength for any chosen taxonomy field, whether multiple terms or not.
