Suggestion for content-icons in modal

Project:Panels
Version:5.x-2.0-alpha2
Component:User interface
Category:feature request
Priority:normal
Assigned:Unassigned
Status:closed (fixed)

Issue Summary

I had a go at icons for the different content-types, blocks, menus in the "modal".
Also grouped them into 3 sections: Content, Core blocks & menus and Custom blocks, a bit like the Mac OS X system preferences.

I dig this look. However, in order to commit to it, we need to work out icons for:

1) a generic icon for blocks that don't have an icon.
2) an icon for every core block
3) icons for views (because views is pretty close to core from Panels' perspective)
4) icons for really high profile modules that provide blocks. I can't think of any off the top of my head, but somebody might.

Ok, I'm making a list of blocks provided by Core, Views & Top20-Contrib modules.
So far, 27 blocks counted, final list will probably be 35 to 40 block-icons.

I'd like to make these, attaching a few first ones.
All feedback welcome of course.

Question: Do these modules provide blocks? They are in the top-20 downloaded modules too, I couldn't check if they provide blocks:
- Gallery?
- E-commerce?
- Captcha?

____ List of blocks ____

VIEWS BLOCKS
- generic View-page
- generic View-block (do we need this distinction between page and block?)

POPULAR CONTRIB BLOCKS

What are the various block_menu icons you have? THey look nice but I'm not sure how to distinguish a views_block_menu?

#5

Yeah ignore the Views_block_menu one. I'm making basic variations, some of those aren't necessary, but hey.
I'll remove it in the next version. (My perspective is that of the CSS where you have block-block and block-menu)
Can't you tell when a block is a menu at all or just not for Views/Contrib?

#6

the -whatever is the name of the module that generated it. So block-block was generated by block.module (and is thus custom). block-menu is generated by menu.module and thus a menu. block-menu-1 is the primary navigation block. For example.

Updated attachment. I think I have covered all Core-blocks now.

These are good. Can you start posting these as individual icons? Also you had some icons I liked in your original mockup, some of those might be valuable too, for other things.

#9

Here's a link to the seperate icons

Which ones would you like to have from the original mockup? Then I'll translate those to the current style.

I cut out the icon for custom content (with the pencil) which may need to be updated, but otherwise I have set this up and committed it. THis introduced a spiffy new feature to categorize available content, and it makes the page much easier to use.

yoroy I owe you much for this! Thank you!

I really appreciate your enthousiasm, I'm just glad I'm finding ways to help. Attaching the custom-content icon.
