Creating two new fields under a product type is not a ton of work, but I've created a ui for commerce physical. This ui provides a simple checkbox on/off for the product types which you would like to mark as physical products. This could be useful if a store had a lot of different product types which require physical attributes or if you just want an easy on/off for adding the fields.

To access the settings: Store > Configuration > Physical products

This looks like a good idea to add to the Commerce Physical Product. Having just tired it I have a couple of suggestions:

Default units
It would be great to be able to set the default units for each product type. As on some physical products I want the units to be g and cm and on others kg and m.
Make dimensions and weight independent.
Not all stores are bothered about dimensions and only weights are needed.

It's been a long time since I visited this module :) I agree with your suggestions. Let me get with Ryan and see if he's interested in including this as a commerce physical ui module. If so, then I'll update it and add in your suggestions.
