After I initially enabled the module and entered in admin into pathauto these PHP messages appeared:

* warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /xxx.com/cms/sites/all/modules/pathauto/pathauto_user.inc on line 39.
* warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /xxx.com/cms/sites/all/modules/pathauto/pathauto_user.inc on line 63.
* warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /xxx.com/cms/sites/all/modules/pathauto/pathauto_user.inc on line 16.
* warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /xxx.com/cms/sites/all/modules/pathauto/pathauto.module on line 204.
* warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /xxx.com/cms/sites/all/modules/pathauto/pathauto.module on line 204.
* warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /xxx.com/cms/sites/all/modules/pathauto/pathauto.module on line 204.
