As a memo... Some users were not impressed with AF devs decision to attach #2 as a first reply number in a comments queue. They want it to be reverted to #1 (similar to 6.x-1.x branch). In my opinion the best solution is to provide an option in AF admin settings:
× First comment is #2
If webmaster wants comments to start with #1 they can easily disable this option.

michelleReally? This is how forum software normally works. I'm surprised people would want to revert to the odd Drupalism.
I don't have a problem in general with making this optional but am always wary of the "airplane cockpit" configuration screen. If it's really wanted, I'm not going to block it but do keep in mind that things can get crazy if we start adding tons of options for little tweaks.

Ingumsky commentedIt really is. Some of my users are asking me persistently why there's annoying #2 showing at the top of the first reply. It looks even worse considering it "breaks" number of posts per topic page because there's initial post + N comments rendered at the first page but only N comments at any other page.

michelleYeah, the pagination is annoying since it only paginates the comments. That's one of many frustrations that led to Artesian. :)
Sounds like this would be a good feature, then. It's been a long time since I've looked at the code in question but having users alter it at the template level might be icky enough to warrant a settings option.
Keep in mind that we're trying to get to 2.0 ASAP so take care not to break anything else along the way. :)

michelleOh, keep #1274032: Post numbers are incorrect when listing newest comments first in mind as well, please.
