I got this error after I enabled the IPBoard module through Drupal. I believe I installed everything correctly as in the INSTALL.txt document.

I think you need to upgrade to php 5.2 and above.

I had the same issue today, upgrading (through .htaccess on my host) to PHP5 solved the problem.
