It would be good to get stable releases out for drupal 6 & 7.

One reason is that security notices don't go out for projects that don't have any releases.

Are there some release blocker issues that need fixing before a release?
If so we can list them here and work on getting them fixed.

That's a very good point.

Unfortunately, it's been ages since I've worked on this module, and I no longer use it on any projects. There's a few open issues in the queue that I vaguely remember are problems that really need to be sorted before a release -- some IIRC are to do with the syncing on cron that may not be terribly efficient.

Looking down the list, I think the ones that need addressing are probably:

#799324: Why does simplenews_roles_update_subscriptions() fail?
#958640: Newsletter subscription list was automatically regenerated.
#774312: Massive number of Duplicate entry errors

I could give a hand as co-maintainer for the Drupal 7 version at least, since that's what I'm using. Is miro_dietiker also a maintainer?
