I want to have the title of each of the entries for my "assignment" type of content to be the VID from the table. While the other fields have default information the title field does now. Please tell me how I would be able to adjust the module to do this for me?

in the teaser template you could:

<?php
  $node->title = $node->vid;
?>

Unfortunately this doesn't work with the body template, I don't presently know why.
