When I leave the default option checked to create the automatic node title, it adds the number of the node to the end of the title when the node is updated. Is this by design?

yes. you can easily change it by also installing the token module.

I have the same problem but enabling token hasnt done anything for me... it is required anyway for installing auto_nodetitle.

I have enabled "Automatically generate the title and hide the title field", and when I create content, the title is normal. However, when I return to the record to edit it, the node id is added at the end of the title.

Please help :( Thanks!

I forgot to add the name inside the pattern.. that's how you don't get a number at the end :P
