I just noticed that the terms link shown after the content for images had URLs starting with /taxonomy/term instead of /image/tid.
Does anybody know how I can change it to start with /image/tid?
I wonder if this was caused by the fact that I once deleted the images galleries vocabulary but I added it back later and updated the vid to match with what image gallery module expects.

I am having the same issue, however I can offer _some_ insight. It doesn't have to do with the fact that you deleted vocabulary. The same issue happened to me without me deleting any vocab.

non-ideal work-around: add a menu item linking to your image/tid/# and not relying on the link provided.

a more end-user-friendly solution would be uber-cool.

try the taxonomy redirect module, it allows you to overwrite the taxonomy terms to redirect to image/tid/!tid so that the taxonomy matches teh image gallery address.
