Hello, I'm working with a client in New York and they asked me to look for a great Drupal developer to work with me on their Drupal 6 site (Pressflow 6 with Varnish), with lots of traffic, several web servers, and very interesting features.
Ideally, you are in New York and could work in-house but we're used to working remotely (I'm currently in Uruguay) and you could be a fit if you can do good work remotely and are in a timezone that's not too far away from ET.
Your ideal skillset includes:
- PHP. We write actual code, we're not looking for guys that just know how to install and setup Drupal modules, we're looking for a programmer, a person who likes software engineering and solvig problems. Knowing other programming languages such as Python, Javascript and Ruby are big pluses.
- Drupal 6. You know how to write modules from scratch, optimize for scalability, follow Drupal's conventions, create and modify themes, use preprocess and theme functions correctly, code using Drupal's cache, work with authentication, work with web services, use drush.
- HTML, CSS and Javascript. We're using HTML5 and CSS3 and believe in the need of using modern browsers but have a big audience so we need to deal with IE 7/8/9 from time to time. You should also be good with jQuery and pure Javascript (sorry, not looking for the copy/paste guy, you really need to know how to program in Javascript).
- MySQL and SQL in general. You know how to write efficient queries and how to debug slow ones (EXPLAIN).
- GNU/Linux. We use Ubuntu, a lot of ssh, scp, rsync and bash scripts to automate as much as possible. You should be familiar with the command line.
- Subversion and Trac. You know how to handle the basics of control version, including resolving conflicts, and how to use a ticket system like Trac.
- Good eye for a good user experience.
- Understanding of how a business runs, decision taking and pragmatical thinking. We know there's always a better way of doing things but sometimes a good enough solution is needed to meet goals. You need to know what's the best approach in different scenarios.
- Excellent English and communication skills. We write a lot and we Skype chat/talk a little every day, so you should know how to explain complicated concepts in easy words. There are people in the team that are not developers and you need to be able to exchange ideas efficiently with everybody aboard.
- Good sense of humor and great in team working.
This is a part time position that starts paying US$ 40 per hour and could become full time for the right person.
We love open source and try to write generic modules that could be contributed back to the Drupal community.
We're currently using Drupal 6, and will continue to do so for some time, but we're exploring building new features with other cool technologies, so if you're the kind of developer that likes to learn and adapt fast you should get in touch too (there's some Python, Django, Backbone.js, Node.js and NoSQL in the future plans).
