login from child domains not working

not sure if this is a singlesignon problem or multidomain problem.
Login from the main domain works and stays logged in across all domains.
login from any child domain does not work.
is anyone else experiencing this?
will pay $$$ to have this fixed. please contact me.

At CivicSpace we saw this issue briefly on a site we're building for a client, but it's now disappeared.
I'll check with colleagues to see if they know why...
