caching to improve performance

Wouldn't it be usefull to implement some caching ?
Using the module with a huge taxonomy (500+ terms, and counting) gives a huge performance penalty when generating the page. I checke d the code (drupal 5 branch) but did not find any caching.

If you think it could be usefull to implement caching, I can do it, and post the patch in this issue. (but I rather do not start adding it to the code without consulting others here).
