There is some nice modules to take plain-text emails and transform them into HTML emails, such as http://drupal.org/project/mimemail or http://drupal.org/project/htmlmail. It would be nice to use one of these to format the outbound email to people who are going to access a protected download.

Using mimemail it is already possible to have outgoing mails of this module to be formatted as html. All you have to do is to select "Full HTML" as the E-mail format on the mimemail configuration page.

Does that satisfy your needs?
