We have a potential client who has several sites wyz.uk and wyz.fr built using DA, no table prefixing (They use XLiff for language translations and have separate themes for each language). They now wish us to create some automated process to roll
out clones of the uk site that will become language variants, where they will just have to leverage XLiff to generate the translated content. DA is installed with the following modules enabled:
Domain Alias, Domain Configuration,Domain Navigation,Domain Source,Domain Theme
NOT enabled: Domain Prefix,Domain Settings,Domain Strict,Domain User, Domain Views.
I have not ever used DA in any of our Drupal sites (though that may soon change) but it seems to me that the DA UI provides a quick enough process as it is...but perhaps a script using Drush could facilitate the creation and configuration of these
language variants for novice end users? Is there any potential time or convenience savings with such an endeavor?
Any direction would be much appreciated.

The UI process is fairly quick. There are Drush commands in the D7 version, but those aren't getting a backport to D6.

Depending on what you want to copy over -- e.g. Theme settings, Configuration settings -- a script might be beneficial, but it's hard to say. If you have less than a dozen sites to create, I wouldn't bother.
