I just noticed the license.txt you added at http://cvs.drupal.org/viewcvs/drupal/contributions/modules/taxonews/LICE...

Drupal's cvs policies require all files in the repository to be GPL2.0. Is the CeCILL license the same as GPL2.0 (sorry, I only speak English and Spanish and a little Nederlands, so I can't understand that document)?

If it is not the same as the GPL, please remove it. If any files or code in the module are only under that license then they must be removed as well.

Hello Greggles,

The CeCILL 2.0 is a GPL 2.0 compatible license put out by the french government agencies because the GPL is invalid under french law, and this code is developed in France.

The FSF recognizes the CeCILL 2.0 as compatible with the GPL2.0, see http://www.fsf.org/licensing/licenses/index_html#GPLCompatibleLicenses

BTW, there is a much more balanced presentation than the FSF's on Wikipedia, at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CeCILL

We've already been over this issue months ago with Killes and a few others on IRC, and the conclusion at the time was to let things stand as such, due to the explicit compatibility and the problems with the GPL in legal systems outside the USA, which the CeCILL alleviates. As the Wikipedia explanation goes: "CeCILL really enforces the GPLv2 licence internationally by fixing lots of ambiguities, without losing its compatibility."

You can find it at: http://www.cecill.info/index.en.html

Seems reasonable. Perhaps you could update the FAQ or README (whichever states the policy) in the CVS repository so that they reflect this situation.

Thanks again.

Also, see http://drupal.org/node/272652 which now clarifies the licensing issues in Drupal and contrib.

In the case of OSInet modules, an explicit additional licensing under the GPL 2 has also been added to the license wording.

Great, thanks fgm. If you could please say "GPL2 Or Later" because, as the FAQ states, it is not just the GPL2.

Done (long ago). Not that the updated link for the FSF about CeCILL/GPLv2 compatibility has moved: http://gplv3.fsf.org/wiki/index.php/Compatible_licenses
