I am using the bluemarine theme for my site now, but I can have only one post stay in the top central postion instead of two by choosing sticky publish option. I like the look of current Drupal home page. Can anyone teach me how to have that kind of effect, or at least to have a block stay at the very top in one color and another sticky post at the second postion in a different color?

Is it mission statement what you are asking about?
If yes go to admin -> site configuration -> site information then fill in the mission statement.
Also make sure mission statement display is turned on on your theme's configuration page.

No. it's not the mission statement. When you fill in the mission statement and use the bluemarin theme, the mission statement will be connected to the header and have the same color as the header. It's ugly.

Please look at the current drupal home page and the brown block below the header. That is what I want. In addtion, there is a green block and a blue block on both side. How are these done?

I just verified drupal.org. The yellow (or) brown block you have mentioned is part of the mission statement. It is displayed differently because it is a different theme.

Are you sure? Besides the blocks on the top level, the recent just looks like bluemarine. And how about the blue block on the left and the green on the right? Do you know which theme it's using?

Check this page (http://drupal.org/node/27367) for more info about drupal.org site.
The blue right side bar and the right green download block are part of mission statement.

Thanks a lot. You give me the idea of using the mission statement to do this.
