In Node relationships each reference (relation) gets its own line in what looks like a table. The table has title and nid and at the far right small icons for "search and reference", "create new", "edit" and "view" of the referred node. For reference fields the references_dialog project does the same.
The good thing about this is that a search and reference can use a normal view inside the dialog (preferably with several displays of page type) for selecting content.
This solves any problems with using filters in the display, as when I tried this just now, it was problematic.

bojanz commentedIf you want the node relationships use case (inline management of entities), then you want the Inline Entity Form.
As for references_dialog, I agree that it's a better way of doing things. Planning to investigate doing that for entityreference. The current approach proved to be more problematic than I expected.

pkej commentedI think I have put this issue in the wrong queue, but for now I can't remember where I did want it to go.
As for the module suggestion: thanks. I also clicked your user name to see other projects you're involved with, that also have a bearing on this.

bojanz commentedOh, I didn't notice. Moving.

bojanz commentedThis module's architecture doesn't allow it to be extended further without a rewrite.
My current line of thinking is that it's a better idea for references_dialog / inline entity form to support ERVW-like functionality, than trying to copy them in ERVW.
