Can drupal be used for a tourism operator?

drupalqat - June 24, 2007 - 08:56

A non-technical colleague is looking for a tourist operator solution. I showed him drupal and it seems to be ideal for his online CMS requirements, but he's unsure about drupal being usable for his e-commerce needs:

- multi-lingual, both UI and content itself (better to wait for drupal 6?)
- product description pages (rating, airco, nearby landmarks, etc.)
- inventory management
- accommodation booking across multiple resorts
- online payment processing
- unlimited number of rate rules, packages and tiers
- promotions and discounts
- newsletters

Is this something that can be reached with Drupal's current modules? From checking the available modules, it seems accommodation booking would be a problem?

Any advice is greatly appreciated
David

For booking, have you seen the availability module?

Check out http://www.ourfernie.com.

The booking engine, inventory management and business directory are custom modules that haven't been contributed (yet). We have plans to release them, and also to offer a hosted service suitable for multi-property resorts.

Love your site

I'm always interested in looking at other community (as in literal physical community) sites. You've done a very nice job with yours. I may have to steal some ideas. ;)
