Visiting Drupal from two locations doesn`t work?

lotussteve@carg... - April 16, 2003 - 17:21

Hello!

I`ve searched for the terms "session, login, timeout" and others but didn`t find anything:

I`m using Drupal 4.0.0 on Debian Woody from tarball (and since we are in the middle of moving our whole website to new server, new ISP.... i can`t upgrade to 4.1.0 for a while ) and get the following complaints of my users:

The user logs in to our Drupal at home and then goes off to another location, like work or a friend, where he was previously logged in with Drupal. But when he visits our site from there he has to log in again, and again when he returns home.
Is this a problem with Drupal (fixed in 4.1?), or with other settings on my site?
The same works fine for example with our Forum ( www.phpbb.com ), where you stay logged in when opening the site on different computers.

Can a (hopefully soon) upgrade to Drupal 4.1.0 solve this or where do i have to look?

Many thanks in advance for an advice,

Ciao,

Steve

This is due to the way Drupal handles sessions.

Drupal currently stores sessions on a per-user basis. That means you can only have one session at once for a given user. This also means that the "remember me" checkbox doesn't work if you use two different browsers (on the same machine, or on different ones).

This isn't even fixed in CVS, let alone 4.1.0.

It really *is* time this was fixed (so that users can have multiple sessions and anonymous users actually get a session at all).

Wishlistbug?

Hello!

Thanks for your answer!

Then what is this option for, since i don`t see a difference in behaviour, meaning i`m always logged on when using same computer/browser wether i check it or not!?

I see, too bad !

Hmm, i didn`t find a wishlist bug on this, have i overlooked one?

Thanks,

Ciao,

Steve
