Issue Summary
Would it be possible for the question module to support taxonomy hooks in order to work closely with the defined vocabularies within the site?

I'm not sure I understand. You mean allow someone to select a category as he asks a question?

Yes, I mean the user to have an option to select a category when he creates a question.
The terms of the categories are added via the vocabulary terms of taxonomy for the question module.

Just to clarify this a bit better, what ever is added under
http://www.odphotography.com/odus/admin/taxonomy/add/vocabulary
that is specific to the question module.
And when the administrator (or any user with sufficient access control) sees the submitted questions is able to categorize the questions depending on the category.

We are using Drupal 5, is there a chance of extending this module to allow for taxonomy.
The admin should ideally be able to select a category when entering the Answer.
It's a neat module and hopefully it will continue to grow.
