I need to track this problem, I'm not 100% sure it's a bug in node profile or somewhere else.
But this is what happened:
I logged in as superuser. I clicked on my profile. I saw a profile node that I wanted to delete, because I don't want the superuser to have a profile. I've clicked on edit on that node and deleted it. Then I was logged out. I thought this was happening because before I was changing my password before. But I wasn't able to log in again. I looked into the db user table and saw that there is no user with uid=0, no more...

schnizZzla commentedok i got it, when editing profile node "delete" references to delete user. Oh my goodness, I shouldn't have clicked through the delete warning so fast, but really that is confusing.

fagoah, yes. you have used the core profile categories integration, right?
indeed, that delete button is quite confusing. However, this isn't related to nodeprofile. If you are concerned file a core bug.
