After prepopulating field: node?edit[type][value]=TDF, and updating this to something else, new content will save only the old prepopulated value.

This is presently by design. A feature has been suggested to change this #1309934: After prepoulating fields (new) content can not be saved if it was edited before

Re-rolled the patch for Prepopulate 7.x-2.1.
