Is there a directory of web hosts (preferably a non-commercial one, ie. without ads and paid reviews/placement) that lists which web hosts support PHP 5 by default, which do not support it, and which make it possible to use PHP 5 on your site (and how many hoops you have to jump through)? If none exists yet, would this forum or the handbook be a good place for something like this? If yes, would it make sense to endorse it with a link somewhere on drupal.org?
What with the speculation about making Drupal 7.x PHP5-only, I think such a directory might be very handy. Personally, I've been using PHP5 on Dreamhost for nearly a year, but I remember how many links I had to sift through on Google before I found a good offer, and this would have been quite useful.

Exactly.
PHP 5 was released 3 years ago now. Any host that far behind the curve doesn't deserve your money.

Need reliable Drupal hosting? (With PHP5 support, of course)
And yet...
A surprising amount of them just don't have it. I know that the webservers of our university were switched over late last year. My old webhost refused (literally; I asked them about it and they told me to buy a VPS - like hell!) to upgrade any time soon around August. To someone who is used to looking for this first, it might look as if all serious hosts offer this. But all too many people fall into the trap of not checking before they buy, because they have no idea about the version conflicts they're going to face.
BlueHost
I've enjoyed using bluehost.com very much. High quality shared hosting service.
Servage
I have several Drupal sites, some in 4.x others in 5.x, all running from a single account with Servage.

Media Temple supports Drupal 5.
I had a site running on PHP4. With the click of a button I made that site run on PHP5. Was really impressed with that.

Drupal 5x on a Power VPS Centos4?
I have heard a lot of good things about Power VPS and was looking to move my site from a shared server to their Centos 4 Plan, but am a bit concerned about the server versions that they are using.
I told them that i am currently running a Drupal
5.1 site with Apache 2.0.54, Php 5.2.1, and MySQL 5. and asked if their plan supports these versions.
The reply was "We would be able to compile PHP to achieve these settings for you and the move should then be smooth." I'm not sure what this means, but it makes me a bit nervous since they don't support 3rd-party scripts such as Drupal.
Is anyone else out there running a Drupal 5x site with them? And if so, what has your experience been?
