My problem is two fold

First I want to understand where the check for field label resides. Say I am using a date field and after choosing "select (drop down) wizard" for date, it asks for a "label" i assume its a widget label. Now what I want to do is make that label textfield not required and give it for user to fill.

1) So, how to make that label not required that is remove the (*) sign from label.
>> I assume it should be getting done in content.module because it is being done to all the fields. I would like to make slight changes (a dirty hook) in content.module for ignoring it for date field.

2) And give how to give it to user to fill that field, there it should be required. (User has to fill it) ??
>> It again requires some knowledge of content.module, please help me whoever has muddled with this inside code changes.

Altogether different approach I can think of is to add one text field to my custom type (beside date) BUT here also I don't want to show users the label of date at the time of creation of node of that particular content type, so it also needs some content module change. So, in total I feel the first one is better.

Please help me or give me some pointers about that.

I am using Drupal 5.1, date-5.x-1.5 and cck-5.x-1.5

I have the exact same question. I'm pretty sure it can be done. Can someone suggest a fix?

If you want to remove(actually hide) the labels in custom cck fields do the following:

1. Go to your Custom Content Type

2. Open the Display Fields Tab

3. Go the specific field you want to edit

4. Click the dropdown menu under label

5. Select <hidden>

6. Click submit

Now the label in that custom CCK field will be hidden and therefore not visible on your nodes.

Hope this helps,
James
