hi,

I have multiple websites ( 20 actually and all of them are community portals for various communities ) or domains and would like to use drupal for content management. Can this be accomplished by a single installation or instance of drupal ? if so, how can I do it ? Hate to have redundant instances for multiple domains.

This is quite do-able. The term is "multi-site" and there are many, many posts on it as well as handbook pages (a search should turn up more than you can read in a day). There is also a group devoted to the subject at groups.drupal.org.
