Because %variable is being used for the placeholders every instance of a placeholder is being wrapped in <em></em> tags in the body of the e-mail. Replacing the placeholder with !variable will get rid of this.

Ah!! I think that's what's going wrong for me on the admin help so when this is committed to the live branch feel free to close my newly opened issue!!

Am I right in thinking a global search and replace should fix this until the proper release is packaged and issued?
