Per the request of both Thomas Svenson and Dave Reid (on twitter), I put together a rambling video showing some frustrations with trying to setup and configure media module.

I intentionally showed just one specific example here (inserting a pdf into the content area). This same type of problem is something I struggle with in all file types (it gets much worse trying to get a audio/video player to work in this situation). It's possible this is just a documentation issue (I don't understand how to set it up) so please clarify.

I hope this is helpful and not seen as a rant (although I made it while currently being frustrated with trying to solve the problem, so it may sound rant-ish...sorry!) Please review and give some feedback, I'd be happy to show other examples like this if it's considered helpful (honestly, though, I can't imagine you dont already know what I show here).

this is how all major issues should be presented.

I completely agree with frustrations in this video

Very helpful video. Should some of the points be broken into individual issues?

I understand your frustration. You might find the issues below of interest.

#1292382: Make it possible to create any number of custom File Types contains a solution to the "I can't see which mime types this file type supports" Aka is a PDF considered Text or an Application?

#832372: Default "Link to file" formatter for all media types in wysiwyg is a discussion about how to handle embedding non image types. Aka not just showing a pdf icon.

I haven't seen an issue to address the problem where the WYSIWYG media embed button doesn't respect the file type View Modes. anyone?

Thanks for the extra-effort with the video. Per #4 I am going to close this issue to reduce noise in the issue queue. If there is indeed no issue yet for the third problem feel free to open one.
