I have the following modules installed:
CustomError 5.x-1.1
Diff 5.x-1.1
XML Sitemap 5.x-1.10
IMCE 5.x-1.0
Meta tags 5.x-1.3
Site map 5.x-1.1
TinyMCE WYSIWYG Editor 5.x-1.x-dev
Update status 5.x-2.0-beta
Upload previews 5.x-1.2

When I upgraded from 5.x-2.0-beta to 5.x-2.0-beta2 all I got was a blank screen (I assume there was a php error somewhere). Could any of the modules I have cause an issue? Or is this a 'you installed it incorrectly' type of bug?

As it is I don;t know whether I can risk installing that version again at present.

i can't reproduce any problems with update_status, even downloading and installing the official 5.x-2.0-beta2 tarball from the web instead of deploying from CVS. must be something broken with one of your other installed modules. please try disabling everything except update_status and see if the problem remains. if so, we can call it an update_status bug. otherwise, it must be a bug else where or a support request.

managed to find time.

I disabled the module, uploaded the new one, and re enabled it. Worked with no problems - I must have missed something when I ftp'ed the files up.
