I am migrating, or upgrading, my old site newideas.net , which is an old html site built in 1999, to a new Drupal 5.1 site that I get to add new content to everyday, and it will soon be more of a community site for parents and grandparents of ADHD kids.

The “old newideas.net” site was at what I'll call "ns1.oldnewideas.net" on my “old server.”

Then, over the past six months, I have completely rewritten the content into a new Drupal site, added fresh new content, and am now ready to make this my “new newideas.net” site. The new site is on a new server that I will call “ns1. new-newideas.net” – and the actual address if you’d care to visit and see what you think is http://205.234.252.67/

When I built the new site, I used the base url of http://205.234.252.67 in the settings php

Most of my content is organized into book pages, and all of the pages have relative urls, such as “/adhd/treatment”. I thought that would be the easiest way to (1) work on the new site, and then (2) make the future change to the base url settings of "http://www.newideas.net"

My plan was to (1) simply upload all of the “old newideas.net” pages to the new server. Then (2) change the DNS settings from the old server to the new server. Then (3) change the “base url” of the Drupal pages in settings.php to www.newideas.net , and then (4) use several 310 permanent redirects to point the old html pages to the new Drupal php pages as appropriate. This way I thought I could make all of the changes in easy stages, since I do this very part time.

So today I decided that the new site was ready, and I uploaded the “old newideas.net” pages to the new server. Then I changed the DNS settings from the old server to the new server. Then I changed the “base url” of the Drupal pages in settings.php to www.newideas.net.

The old pages have migrated to new server nicely. But the Drupal pages have not become “newideas.net/” pages. They are still http://205.234.252.67/ pages. How do I get them to become “http://www.newideas.net/” pages? What am I missing?

Also, if I force the issue by typing in www.newideas.net/node , which “node” is the default home page, I just get a 404 error page. I cannot call up any of the new Drupal pages by typing www.newideas.net/anything-or-anypage-title

I know I’m close, but I just cannot find a step by step process page to get me to where I need to be now. If anyone can help I would very much appreciate it. I am sooooooo close to being done with the change-over to the new site!

Thanks in advance

Looks like you sorted the problem OK to me.
Everything seems to be in place.
http://www.newideas.net/tracker is a working Drupal page.

Unless you have local Nameserver/Hosts problems, I think you've done it.

Thanks for checking on this for me. It is now about 14 hours later and here is the strange thing:

In Explorer, the address newideas.net resolves nicely to the new site.

In Firefox the old site comes up using the same URL.

I am trusting that this will all resolve in the next few hours, but it does seems strange to me.

Again, thanks for your willingness to help me out.

I hear "clear the cache" coming. Sorry.

But, again, thank you to all in the Drupal community for all of your hard work and creativity.
