Upload doesnt work, anonymous node

After installing the Docs module, whenever I go to create content > file, I see a blank "Files" field in the form. There is no way to interact with it. Looking in the page's code, I see that this field has something to do with taxonomies... do I first have to create entries there?
Additionally, I had to manually set the name of the "title" field in the content type management area.

You should have a new Menu item called Downloads. Go in there and create a new Directory. Once that is done, it will appear in the "Files" field.

Same situation here, I can't upload files, not using file node or /docs "new files".
Just nothing happens. New file nodes are added by user "anonymous" and have no title. When I reopen the file node, the file attachment is gone, it's never uploaded to the server anyway.
Drupal 5.6 here

I think I am running into the same problem using Drupal 5.6 as well. I attempt to upload a file, no title appears and the file was never uploaded to the server. I have old files that uploaded and are still available to users. I probably uploaded them with an older version of Drupal. I'm also doing all this as admin.
Help would be appreciated as I need to get these files up and available on my site.
