Running the install script
Running the install script with Drupal 5 is so darn easy it out to be outlawed...Not.
Just point your browser to localhost and that should get the install script going.

How to run installation script?
Hi!
Could you please explain in detail how to Run The Install Script, much appreciated. Its easy to say when you know what to do! So can you please break down installation steps for me.
Thanks

The install script is run by pointing your browser to the folder where you have drupal stored, or by pointing your browser directly to install.php in the folder where you have drupal stored.
Install Drupal 5.1 on WinXP
Hello there!
I am really stuck with DRUPAL install. Its part of my project to evaluate drupal but I cannot install drupal to start with! Then how I'm going to evaluate it! Please help or tell me how to install DRUPAL. If I point install.php to browser then I get following error:
Warning: require_once(./includes/install.inc): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in C:\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Apache2.2\htdocs\drupal\install.php on line 4 Fatal error: require_once(): Failed opening required './includes/install.inc' (include_path='.;C:\php5\pear') in C:\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Apache2.2\htdocs\drupal\install.php on line 4
There is no /includes folder inside /drupal. Please instruct me which files needs amending and where?
Regards: Mero
if there is no includes
if there is no includes folder where you stored drupal, then you did not untar the entire archive after downloading it. redownload Drupal, untar the archive (ALL OF IT) and you should be good to go.

when you click on create first account, what page are you brought to ? or are you stating that you are brought to a file listing of your drupal folder ?
Install Drupal 5.1
Hello there!
Successfully installed Drupal when I clicked onto index.php, it display drupal home page with following options:
1 Create your administrator account
2 Configure your website
3 Enable additional functionality
4 Customize your website design
5 Start posting content
Once I click onto create the first account or any links, it take me back to a file listing of the drupal folder on my localhost. Please advice, what to do next?

I suggest starting a new topic, I have no idea why that would happen. It doesn't sound like your server environment is working properly.
Same Problem
I am having the same problem. It appeared to install Drupal. But when I try and "Create First Account" it goes back to the file list?
Problem creating first account after installation.
Hello
I have changed httpd.conf from
DirectoryIndex index.html
to
DirectoryIndex index.html index.htm index.php
which is located in /Apache2.2/conf. Its worked for me.

Same problem
I had the same problem. I made the change above you suggested - you have to reboot afterwards and now it just keeps saying my password is not right. It will not let me create a new account? Although when I try to do that the new account does show up in my mySQL tables. The accounts cannot logon - nor get Email confirming?
I'm just trying to install it on my local PC to see if I like Drupal. Then I'll see if I want to load it on my server.
Thanks that works for me
Thanks that works for me too.
