List your top 10 modules

Ev0 - July 1, 2007 - 02:11

Since I'm new here, and would like to get an idea of what modules to use. I thought I'd ask the community what modules they use.

Right now I'm just using the defaults along with gallery, frequently asked questions, and the BBCode formatting bar.

What modules do you use?

My Top 10

gjrick - July 1, 2007 - 02:47

The community has done some fantastic work with modules (I wish I had their knowledge to develop them). In no particular order, here are the ones we use the most:

1. Audio
2. Askimet (controls comment spam)
3. Catcha
4. Print (creates printer friendly pages for your nodes)
5. Poormanscron
6. Taxonomy Block
7. TinyMCE
8. Webform
9. Mailhandler
10. Emailpage

Look forward to other's input on this topic as well.

Drupal-id.com - July 1, 2007 - 04:10

every sites has their own purpose and need, but here are mine:

  1. views (must have module)
  2. mycaptcha (must have module)
  3. fckeditor plus, my own version of FCKeditor. Fckedtior Plus is "all in one editor", including: fckeditor, file/image manager, create thumbnail, default setting for image (like vspace, hspace, border), support contemplate.module, spelling checker, create subfolder, etc.
  4. spam (must have module)
  5. nodetype, used to change you node type (because Drupal 5.1 can't change the node type)
  6. ecommerce
  7. i18n, multilanguage purposed (because Drupal 5.1 doesn't support multilanguage)
  8. pathauto (IMO, this module should be in Drupal 6)
  9. nodeaccess, because Drupal 5.1 doesn't have better node access
  10. excerpt, because Drupal 5.1 can not separate teaser (except Drupal 6)
  11. jstools (oopss.. more than 10. need to extend Drupal to have more AJAX features, I hope Drupal 6 (maybe 6.2) provide many AJAX features)

Modules

JirkaRybka - July 1, 2007 - 12:04

I noticed the 4.7.x version on this topic. I'm also still on 4.7.x

The modules:

- Views (very best for flexible node-lists, used all around our site)
- CCK (create custom content-types)
- Poormanscron (where necessary, which is everywhere you don't have admin access to server machine)
- Category (replacement for Taxonomy, a bit better navigation structure)
- img_assist (easy insertion of images into posts, both upload and full-size view in pop-up windows)
- Event (our choice, as we need to show upcoming events)
- Privatemsg (Private messages are necessary on a community web, although this module is not exactly perfect)

- Smileys
- Texy (These two are input formats replacing unwanted TinyMCE with pseudo-syntax perhaps easier than BBcode - but this is a matter-of-taste choice ;-)

- Of course a lot more from core modules...
