Hi.

I'm evaluating CMS tools for creating a news site with standard requirements: front page composition (3-columns); formatting for mobile devices; news with title, sub-title and heading paragraph; sections; comments; articles; blogs; widgets (advertising, weather, polls, stock exchange...) and so forth.

Ideally I could start with simple features site and grow step by step to full functionality.

I have 45 days (full time) to kick off and have no expertise and no knowledge in CMS's in general and PHP in particular (I'm a Java developer).

1. Is Drupal a good choice in my case?

2. Where should I start from?

3. Do I need to learn PHP? How hard (in days) may be the learning curve, for both Drupal and PHP?

4. Are there maybe better alternatives for my case? Best positioned is Wordpress.

5. Alternatively I could start with Wordpress and then migrate to Drupal. How hard is the migration?

Thanks for your time.
Antonio.

I think so.

You do not need to know PHP. Drupal learning curve is more than a few days. More than a few months too. :)

But there are levels of understanding and proficiency. 45 days is enough to make a site I think.

That is more work than starting off in Drupal. If you want Drupal, start off with it.
