Related: #928660: PageRoute is no longer being maintained.
IMO the project page should advertise for new/more maintainers.

Yes, the Page Manager of http://drupal.org/project/ctools has taken over.
For newbies / novice users, however, that is not a viable solution.

This module could perhaps be rewritten as an "add-on" to cTools, providing a UI that does not require learning the complexity of cTools.
