I am posting this for posterity if this is a duplicate post I apologize. Basically I was having a blank TinyMCE admin screen. Since I couldn't create a profile I also incorrectly associated this with TinyMCE not loading when I went to edit nodes. What fixed it was the adding $help to my template. The text in the admin section is actually posting in the $help variable. Hopefully this will $help someone else out there.

Thank you for posting this, it was very helpful to me.
I thought I had installed the TinyMCE module incorrectly until Google lead me here.
