Is there any chance this could be integrated this with Fields API. Would be massively useful!

1. It would make it possible to set up for different applications for different locations/contexts. For example: on registration the user has an option to apply for a "Volunteer" role; if the application is approved, further options appear on the user account page ("Site editor", "Instructor", "First-aider", "Ninja"...).

2. It would allow for a much greater control over where and how the application is displayed.

3. It would allow for integration with useful logic gadgets like Conditional Fields.

Hmm... I'm not really sure I follow your examples?

Please provide some more information on the usefulness for this?

I'm inclined to say what you're attempting to do is custom enough that it doesn't warrant extending this module at the expense of simplicity... but I'm all ears.
