I found a corresponding issue for the DEV-version of this module here (http://drupal.org/node/1121722) but when I had a look into the current stable version of the module I found out that the function which is patched in the above issue seems to be re-written.

The issue is the following: I installed the current stable version of price module. When I go to translation interface I can find "Order total" in the list of strings which can be translated. But after defining a translation the translated string still remains "Order total" in checkout view - not the translated version for this string is used.

Does someone have an idea what can cause this issue?

The -dev release is more recent than the 1.2 release. -dev always incorporates the latest changes. This problem should be resolved, and I'm packaging a 1.3 release today that you'll be able to update to to have it fixed. Notice the date on #1121722-60: Improve DX of instance translation. : )
