Hi, I would like to become (co)maintainer of the Sites module.
I have written a number of features that would expand the sites module. (a context for each site, theme,...)
The first thing would be to release a 7.x-dev branch.
I have already done some work here to port the module to Drupal 7. (http://drupal.org/node/820524#comment-4657110)

Hooray, Takki, thank you very much for taking the lead on this!

As you may know, there's a procedure to become a (co)maintainer, even without permission from the module's original developers, if the module seems to be abandoned. This is via the drupal.org management.

If you don't hear from the existing maintainers fairly soon, I hope you pursue that alternative route.

Project: Sites » Drupal.org site moderators
Version: 6.x-2.x-dev »
Component: Miscellaneous » Project ownership

Hi,

I'm requesting to take over the Sites module. => http://drupal.org/project/sites
I have contacted the module owner through the contact form and IRC several weeks ago, but I did not get any reply.

My motivation and the work I have already done on the sites module is stated above.

Thanks

This request is important because, currently, in Drupal 7, there is no way to:

  • Run multiple sites off a single Drupal install,
  • While selectively sharing some content between sites,
  • That is compatible with content access control.

In Drupal 6, the Sites module is the only released way to do this.

Takki has done an initial Drupal 7 port of the Sites module; the D6 Sites module maintainers have ignored that, and have not created a D7 branch.

This combination of requirements seems like a reasonably common one.

Details:

Native Drupal multisite, and the Spaces module, do not allow sharing of content. (There is a D6-only patch to allow that in Spaces, but it has not been incorporated even into the D6 HEAD.)

The Virtual Sites module does not allow selective sharing of content.

Domain Access is incompatible with content access control. (At least, without extensive kludgery.)
