According to the readme file, I tried to add a menu item with path /phpbbforum ,
but drupal could not find that menu.

This can be confusing for me too. We need to improve this.

You need to select "In frame inside Drupal page" or "In the Drupal page" and then clear the cache on the Performance admin settings page.
