with Taxonomy Theme enabled, the ability of Drupal to assign different blocks based on theme is disabled. i had my (default) phptemplate theme for most pages and set up the blocks for header & left sidebar. then i enabled TT and assigned bluemarine to be my admin theme. at that point, if i made a change to the blocks (which would occur in bluemarine), that change only applied to bluemarine -- even if i selected my phptemplate theme as the theme i was working with in Blocks.

if i disable TT, everything works correctly.

How did you assign bluemarine to be your admin theme? Correct me if I'm wrong, but there is no such option in taxonomy_theme as it is now part of Drupal 5 core (admin/settings/admin). I just tried myself and blocks administration is definitely working with taxonomy_theme enabled. In case you used the 'Extended (Paths)' feature to select an admin theme, you should remove that settings and use the D5 core option instead. Otherwise you might have another conflicting module installed ...

thanks for the reply. it led me to play around a bit with TT and Blocks. turns out that when you are in Blocks, it shows the theme for whatever available theme is being configured. that's kind of messy with my default theme, which is beautiful for content and sucks for admin! makes sense, of course, so you can see the immediate results of your choices with blocks. just confusing.

i removed only the references to Admin pages from TT; i left my other choices in there (eg, node/*/edit). it now works fine. you might consider adding a warning in Extended Paths to not use Admin pages if you've set an admin theme. might save others the hours of grief i've gone thru!

thanks for the feedback. it's a relief to know what my problem was.
