Levelten apps management pages take 5 minutes to load

I'm testing the app on my dev box which has very long php execution time limits set and all the apps/levelten/* pages take very long to load. Probably the module is trying some fetch some uris that are not responding so the script is halted while it's waiting for an external server to respond.
