I am comparing two offers:
1st offer is using Xen VPS from Linode.com
2nd offer is using OpenVZ from RocketVPS.com or Virtuzzo from Knownhost.com (both RocketVPS and KnownHost are the same except that RocketVPS provides UnManaged and KnownHost provides Managed hosting).

Xen gives reliable results. Linode is good. OpenVZ / Virtuozzo sometimes works really well, but sometimes not, as if the memory you have supposedly paid for is not immediately available the OS will just kill the process calling for that memory. There are some threads pointing this out in the Aegir (I think Hostmaster) issue queue, as well as a blog post on 2bits.com about how many people have problems on OpenVZ with Drupal. I have used both, as well as dedicated. As I have suggested in many posts, if you want managed hosting with or without root access, look at Drupal specialists such as Drupion, civihosting.com, Omega 8 etc.

Xen. Like I said, the others sometimes work well, but are not reliable. Besides, Linode has good quality hardware and excellent network, and good support albeit unmanaged, and good backup system, and this all makes a difference. I do not know about Rocket VPS. But Xen is always more expensive and given the choice I would always pick it for Drupal. Obviously it will still kill processes if you run out of memory, but at least with Xen you know you are getting exactly the memory you are paying for so (given the time and skills) you are in control of your own server's behaviour with Xen.
